Detailed Grammar notes:
Processing keyword: ~(으)다 보니 [(eu)da boni] (Seeing that, as)
In Korean, ~(으)다 보니 is a grammatical structure used to express that by continuously doing an action, a new fact, realization, or situation is discovered. It often conveys unintended or unexpected results that occur naturally over time. This expression is akin to saying "as I keep doing..." or "while doing..." in English.
~(으)다 보니 indicates that as someone continues an action, they come to realize something new or a certain result has happened:
Verb Stem Ending | + Connector | Resulting Form |
---|---|---|
Ends with a vowel or 'ㄹ' | 다 보니 | Verb stem + 다 보니 |
Ends with a consonant (excluding 'ㄹ') | 으 + 다 보니 | Verb stem + 으다 보니 |
While both expressions deal with ongoing actions, they differ in their usage and nuance.
