Detailed Grammar notes:
Processing keyword: ~하기보다 [hagiboda] (Rather than)
~하기보다 is used to compare two verbs or actions, suggesting that the action following ~하기보다 is more preferable or accurate than the preceding one.
The basic structure is:
Verb Stem + 기보다 (더/오히려) + Second Action
[First Verb Stem] + 기보다 (더/오히려) + [Second Verb]
먹 + 기보다 더 마시겠다
In Korean culture, indirect expressions are often used to show politeness. Using ~하기보다 allows the speaker to gently suggest an alternative without directly rejecting the first option.
Feel free to revisit this lesson to reinforce your understanding of ~하기보다!
