~지 않아도 되다 [ji anado dweda] (Don't have to)

Used to express that an action is not necessary or mandatory; 'don't have to'.

Formation

Verb stem + 지 않아도 되다

Examples

너무 걱정하지 않아도 돼. 모두 잘 될 거야.

Neomu geokjeonghaji anado dwae. Modu jal doel geoya.

You don't have to worry too much. Everything will be fine.

시험을 이미 통과했기 때문에 더 이상 공부하지 않아도 돼.

Siheomeul imi tonggwahaetgi ttaemune deo isang gongbuhaji anado dwae.

You don't need to study anymore because you've already passed the exam.

우리는 다른 사람들을 위해 모든 것을 포기하지 않아도 돼.

Urineun dareun saramdeureul wihae modeun geoseul pogihaji anado dwae.

We don't have to give up everything for other people.

비가 온다고 해서 그냥 집에 머무르지 않아도 돼.

Biga ondago haeseo geunyang jibe meomureuji anado dwae.

You don’t have to stay home just because it's raining.

Long Explanation

'~지 않아도 되다 [ji anado dweda]' indicates that someone is not obliged to perform a certain action. It literally means 'it is okay even if you do not do something.'
