~일 리가 없다 [il riga eopda] (Cannot be, it's not possible that)

Expresses disbelief or denial, indicating that something is impossible.

Formation

Verb (dictionary form) + 일 리가 없다

Examples

그가 그런 일을 하다니, 그럴 수가 없어요. 그런 일을 할 리가 없어요.

Geuga geureon ireul hadani, geureol su ga eopseoyo. Geureon ileul hal riga eopseoyo.

That he did such a thing is impossible; there's no way he could have done it.

너무 잘 알고 있는 그 사람이 거짓말을 할 일이 없어요.

Neomu jal algo issneun geu sarami geojinmaleul hal iri eopseoyo.

The person I know so well would never lie.

오늘은 너무 바빠서 영화를 즐길 일이 없어요.

Oneureun neomu bappaseo yeonghwareul jeulgil iri eopseoyo.

I'm too busy today; there's no way I can enjoy a movie.

이런 비싼 차를 살 일이 없어요, 돈이 그리 많지 않아요.

Ireon bissan chareul sal iri eopseoyo, doni geuri manhji anhayo.

There's no way I would buy such an expensive car; I don't have that much money.

Long Explanation

'~일 리가 없다' is used to strongly deny or reject the possibility of a situation or action. It is often translated as 'there's no way that...', 'it cannot be that...', or 'it's impossible that...'.
