아/어/여 가지다 combines the ending -가다 (to go) with the vowel harmonization of the verb stem which can be:
Verb Stem | Ending | Resulting Form |
---|---|---|
가다 (to go) | -아 | 가가지다 (to have) |
먹다 (to eat) | -어 | 먹어 가지다 (to have eaten) |
공부하다 (to study) | -여 | 공부해 가지다 (to have studied) |
While 가지다 indicates possession of something as an active state, 있다 simply states that something exists.
