Examples
彼は走ってみたが、まだ膝が痛いと感じた。
Kare wa hashitte mita ga, mada hiza ga itai to kanjita.
He tried running, but he still felt pain in his knee.
彼女は料理を作ってみたが、失敗してしまった。
Kanojo wa ryouri o tsukutte mita ga, shippai shite shimatta.
She tried cooking but ended up failing.
初めてのデートで、彼は彼女にサプライズをしようと考え、歌ってみた。
Hajimete no deeto de, kare wa kanojo ni sapuraizu o shiyou to kangae, utatte mita.
On their first date, he thought of surprising her and tried singing.
このケーキは美味しそうだから、味見に食べてみる。
Kono keeki wa oishisou dakara, ajimi ni tabete miru.
Since this cake looks delicious, I will try tasting it.
Long Explanation
The 〜てみる grammar point is used with a verb in the 〜て form followed by みる. It emphasizes doing something as a trial or to see the result. It often translates as 'to try doing something' or 'try it out'.
