Processing keyword: 尽管如此 (jǐnguǎn rúcǐ) - Even so, nevertheless
In Mandarin Chinese, the phrase 尽管如此 (jǐnguǎn rúcǐ) is used to express a contrast between two statements, similar to saying "even so" or "nevertheless" in English. This grammar point allows the speaker to acknowledge a situation while highlighting that the subsequent action or opinion remains unchanged despite that situation.
Structure: [尽管 + Clause A], [尽管如此, Clause B]
Chinese | English |
---|---|
尽管 | Despite/Even though |
如此 | So/Like this |
尽管如此 | Even so/Nevertheless |
尽管如此 is similar to other Mandarin expressions that express contrast, such as 虽然...但是... (suīrán... dànshì...) meaning "although... but...".
In Chinese culture, acknowledging difficulties and challenges while maintaining determination or commitment is viewed positively. Using 尽管如此 reflects a resilient attitude, showing that one is aware of the challenges but chooses to proceed nonetheless.
Using expressions like 尽管如此 can vary in formality, but it is generally neutral and can be used in both casual conversations and formal communication.
