Verb る ところ (Verb-ru tokoro)

Expresses the state or moment when an action is about to happen or is happening.

Formation

Verb-dictionary form + ところ

Examples

彼は食べるところです。

Kare wa taberu tokoro desu.

He is in the process of eating.

私は出かけるところです。

Watashi wa dekakeru tokoro desu.

I am just about to leave.

彼女は泣くところでした。

Kanojo wa naku tokoro deshita.

She was on the verge of crying.

私たちは勉強するところです。

Watashitachi wa benkyou suru tokoro desu.

We are in the middle of studying.

Long Explanation

The grammar point 'Verb る ところ' is used to express that one is just about to do something, or is in the process of doing it. It can be translated as 'just about to' or 'in the middle of' in English, depending on context.
